Take these tools back to your group to spice up your sets, experiment with composing and arranging through spontaneous creation, and even open for your own group with an improv set.  We will be going over the basics before immediately diving in!

From Zero to Hero: Music Director Road Bumps

This session will serve as a conversation about how to successfully found a group from the ground up, and how to overcome some of the most common stumbling blocks that face a young group on the collegiate scene.

Since founding Voice Box in 2014, Harrison Acosta has been awarded best/most outstanding arrangement a total of seven times (including ICCA Finals), and have also received most outstanding choreography twice. Voicebox also placed 4th at the 2016 ICCA Finals, and were crowned the 2016 SoJam Champions.

Discussion and exercises will address this with participants to help them move past critical issues for performers, including: trying to be someone you're not, awkward stage presence, and living up to other's real or perceived expectations. This interactive workshop will focus on individual solo skills and how to best “share your voice” with an audience during a performance. During the class, we will discuss the ins and outs of soloing within an a cappella group, how to best prepare for and approach singing your solo on your own, and provide ideas for how to involve your fellow group members in the process. You’ll also get the chance to demonstrate your solo skills and be given live feedback during the class!
